Taking the iPlunge.

Now I am cool too. After months of waiting for the "right time" to shell out a wad of cash to buy an ipod, I finally took the leap on Saturday (I decided the right time was never going to present itself, so I might as well just bite the bullet). I have wanted one for a long long time. And not just because they are pretty and cool and everyone has one. I even considered other mp3 players, because honestly, I am a pc user through and through and the idea of bringing an apple product into my home (willingly) made me shiver (and not in a good way). Turns out, even my friend Adam thought ipod was the best way to go, so I made my decision. Then, the nano came out, more to consider.

Ultimately, I decided to get the 20G version because both Scott and I will be using the ipod (once we make a further investment for the car adapter). I will say that it was a big of a downer when I got it home and realized I couldn't immediately start playing with it because it needed to charge for five hours. Then there was the whole saga with my computer (it is old) and the fact that it is not compatible with the ipod and its fancy gizmo ways. So, we had to hook it up to Scott's computer (much more modern than mine) and we were off to the races. I seem to have had more success with it than Scott. He was complaining to me the other day that he couldn't figure out how to load his "Jamma Jamma Bamma" playlist (my words not his) onto the ipod and thought that if the itunes interface was so damn great why wasn't it easier to figure that out? This from a man who typically reads every word of a manual before he'll even start assembling something. He adamantly refuses to embrace my new ipod so anything he can do to badmouth it appears to be open season (from cost to appearance). That's okay. If he doesn't want to use it that means more room for me. That pink case I want to buy might also dissuade him...thanks to Renaissance Runner for his generous birthday contribution to the cause!

Yaaaaaaaaay! :) I feel all... influential and stuff!

If you are using iTunes as your main music software anyway, you just hook up the iPod and it starts syncing. Any playlists you have will indeed sync, and will appear under the "Playlists" menu item on the iPod. If you're browsing by artist or song or album, you won't see playlists. This of course assumes it's in iTunes as an actual playlist. If this is something outside of iTunes, no go. iPod = iTunes to go (it was even their slogan for a while.)

I would stay far away from Nano til they get past the "easily scratched and easily broken screens" phase of their launch program. :) They probably sound great but they are apparently far from sturdy.

And I hope you are well! And stuff.

[stopping before I unduly influence anyone else.]

  2. yay ipod!

    congrats! hah!!

just be glad you are not crazy and psycho like me and want to buy every new ipod that is released. i am the perfect apple customer! :(

  3. hey! congrats! i got an iPod on saturday, too! it was my birfday, don'tcha know... it was a gift from a friend of mine. all i was expecting was a nano...

i got the same, 20gb with colour, and now, like a madwoman, i'm craving all the accessories. another friend donated a transmitter, and now i want the portable charger thingy, and the sync cord that you can hook up to two compatible poddies and trade songs and ish...

    congrats again! : )

don't be afraid... the apple won't hurt you...

  4. Could I be more jealous?! I have been lusting after an iPod for months but I have yet to take the plunge. Enjoy!

  5. I highly suggest the iTrip for the car.

  6. I LOVE my ipod...and I have the pink case too! :)

The mini. They killed the mini!

Congrats Kat - your life will now change for the better.

You have found god and her name is Apple.

  8. Thanks for all the comments guys! It is nice to hear people saying something nice about the ipod (unlike my naysayer husband). Lol. He will come around. Eventually.

  9. Weirdly, today my brother (buyer of many gadgets, keeper of none) asked me if I wanted his Ipod, which apparently he only uses when he goes downhill skiing (?). After badgering him with my luddite-esque questions ("Okay, I don't get it. How does the music get on there in the first place?") I accepted his offer and soon he will come and install the software on my computer and show me how to use it. We can talk about our Ipods on the phone! I'll feel so techy!

p.s. Nevermind that right now I'm listening to a Joni Mitchen record from the seventies...

  10. MitchELL! Joni MitchELL!

    I'm also drinking scotch...

  11. Lol. Well, I have most of her stuff on cd, so we can put it all on your ipod ;-)

  12. Oh, how everyone wants to be Solitaire... Wentworth Felix and I are doing just great.
    Did you get yours engraved?

next stop: Apple store in Yorkdale mall. Holla @ me.

  13. Kat, congrats on the iPod and welcome to the club. But screw the's all bout the Monster iCarPlay Wireless Plus. Trust me, the iTrip sucks ass (sorry to those that I may offend). With iCarPlay, you can choose ANY FM station AND the reception is great! I have it and so far, no problems. Plus, the iCarPlay even chargers your iPod in the car! Bonus!

  14. Sweet! Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely pick that up for our road trip in November.

Alas dear Kat - the one thing you will learn about the cult of Apple is this today's shiny new object is very quickly replaced with tomorrow's.
